Original Welded Steel Sculpture by Jeremy Werkheiser
This Kraken steel sculpture is more than metal. It is a story forged in fire by artist Jeremy Werkheiser, capturing the raw power of the legendary sea creature in solid welded steel.
Each tentacle coils with lifelike movement and is covered with 2,542 individually formed and welded steel scales, creating the feeling of motion frozen in time. Nearly 500 documented hours were invested in shaping, welding, grinding, and finishing this award-winning sculpture.
Originally conceived as a design for a welding program project, the piece quickly evolved into something far greater. As the build progressed, the sculpture developed a life of its own, ultimately earning recognition on the national stage and later receiving Best in Show – 3-Dimensional in the Fusion Art Artist’s Choice ITL Art Exhibition (2026).
With its full build process documented from beginning to end and its place in competition history secured, The Deep Sleep carries a provenance that makes it more than a sculpture. It is a milestone piece in the Metal Relic body of work.
There is only one Kraken sculpture like this in existence. No reproductions or editions exist. Even if another Kraken were created in the future, it would not be this Kraken — the original work.
This rarity makes it a striking centerpiece for collectors of fine metal art, maritime legend, and fantasy sculpture.
This is not décor. It is fine art designed to endure for generations, valued for both craftsmanship and story.
